What are the chances of experiencing three seasons in one day? Don’t worry, I’m not going to start throwing out math equations. Who understands them anyway? Lets just say it doesn’t happen often, right?
Would you agree with me that I was a lucky person? (Come on, I experienced THREE seasons in ONE day. Have you?)
My lucky day happened on October 18 (for those of you who were curious) when I was at Bryce Canyon National Park. The first season that I experienced was Winter. It was so windy that I was barely able to see because most of my face was covered by my hair. The altitude was also high enough for temperatures to be below negative during sunset. As for during the day, it was cold enough for the small amount of snow to stay, but not enough to go snowboarding (boo).
How cool would it be to go snowboarding at Bryce Canyon National Park?
Okay… you’re right… not cool at all (don’t do it!).
The next season was… Summer!!
When the sun broke through the clouds and started creating shadows, we felt much warmer. The heat from the sun combined with all the exercise from hiking = sweating (oops, I didn’t mean to throw out this equation. At least they were not numbers).
To clarify, I went from cold to sweating hot in one day.
October wasn’t really the best month to go to Utah if you were heading to the National Parks. How were we supposed to plan what to wear for the day when we experienced dramatic changes in temperature? Of course, we could leave pants and sweaters in the car, but what if the hike was long and took 8+ hours? We wouldn’t have been able to hike back to the car to put more layers on.
This was where the challenge came into play.
The last season was Fall. Hiking down to the hoodoos was a must for me and I left it until the end, about 30 minutes before the sun sets. It wasn’t the best decision because I had to rush getting down. I didn’t stop enough to take pictures. I regretted that.
So this season ended pretty quickly.
So… where was the last season???
I don’t know. Perhaps the next time I visit Bryce Canyon, the title will instead become FOUR SEASONS IN ONE DAY. Now if that actually happens, I really am a lucky person. You will think so too, right?
Fionn is an adventure seeker that is attracted to danger. She is always on a mission to wander around the globe curiously. Whether it will be hiking to the bottom of Grand Canyon, swimming with whale sharks, or finishing the World’s Toughest Mudder, she will always be there with her camera(s) in her hands, a smile on her face and butterflies in her stomach. Oh, and did she forget to mention that she is also a foreign Piña Colada drinker?
